Each and every day millions of Americans are unknowingly exposing themselves to toxic chemicals. In 1938 the FDA granted the personal care industry the power to regulate itself. Therefore, products can be marketed without government approval of ingredients, regardless of what tests show. The ingredients are easily come by and cheap, so they can help companies make a profit. They are found in toothpaste, soap and many skin products.  There are, in fact, more than 125 ingredients used on the skin suspected of causing cancer. They do this by entering the body through the skin. There are four common chemicals that go into these products, and all of them can be said to have one negative effect of another on the body.  First are fragrances: chemicals that have a good smell, but which have been found to cause dizziness.  Next is color.  Coloring agents have been known to cause irritation of the skin.  Finally, we have sodium lauryl sulfate and diethanolamine, which can weaken the immune system and cause kidney cancer, respectively.   These are commonly found in cleansers that foam.  In order to protect ourselves from the dangers of these chemicals, we must learn to read the labels on home products.

28.
Something we can infer about fragrances from the passage is ……

A) they can consist of up to four thousand different chemicals that have powerful odors.
B) they are known to have no side effects
C) the good smell doesn’t mean that the chemical is healthy.
D) they can cause kidney cancer if used too much
E) they have been found to cause chest pains

29. People, according to the passage, are constantly ……

A) coming into contact with dangerous compounds.
B) being fooled into buying products that smell good.
C) attracted to liquid detergents that are bright green or blue.
D) paying lots of money for products that don’t use synthetic coloring agents.
E) demanding that products be tested for cancer causing agents.

30. The writer of the passage explains that cancer might result when ……

A)  we use chemicals that weaken the immune system
B)   we are brushing our teeth with specific types of toothpaste
C)   the chemicals in products enter the body through the skin
D)  people combine fragrances that have been unapproved by the FDA
E)   we inhale the fumes from products containing diethanolamine

31-33. soruları, aşağıdaki parçaya uygun biçimde cevaplandırınız.

Although insects and spiders are related in some ways, they look very different from one another and so are placed in separate classes. Scientists believe that these structural differences indicate that the two classes, Insecta and Arachnida, split from each other early in the evolution of the arthropods. Spiders range in length from less than 0.1 centimetres to more than 10 centimetres. They have two body parts and eight legs. The spider's head and thorax are combined into one body segment, called the cephalothorax, and the abdomen constitutes the second body segment. Each leg has seven segments, and on the tip of the legs of many spiders are two tiny claws. Web weavers use these claws, in addition to their notched hairs, to walk on their webs without sticking to them.

31. The passage tells us that although spiders and insects may be related, ----.

A) they do not feed on the same things
B) scientists do not place them in the same classification
C) they tend not to live in the same habitats
D) spiders are much larger
E) insects have more body segments

32. From the information we are given in the passage we can infer that the size of a spider ----.

A) is dependant upon the habitat of the spider
B) has increased with the progress of evolution
C) is always between 0.1 centimetres and 10 centimetres
D) can vary greatly between types of spider
E) is important when spinning webs

33. It is clear from reading the text that the spider’s body ----.

A) has 2 main segments
B) has 7 leg segments
C) has a tip with 2 small claws
D) consists of a thorax a head and 8 legs
E) allows them to walk on webs easily
